Russian IL-38 Aircraft Exercises

Russia’s two anti-submarine aircraft, IL-38, conducted an exercise in the Pacific. The IL-38 is a maritime patrol aircraft designed by the Soviet Union as an anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The IL 38 is an adaptation of the four-engine turboprop IL18 for use as a maritime patrol aircraft for the Soviet Navy. It met a requirement to counter American ballistic missile submarines. The fuselage, wing, tail unit, and engine nacelles were the same as the IL18 and it had the same power plant and flight deck.

According to another report, the Russian Navy tested a Kalibr cruise missile from a nuclear submarine near Norway. The missile launch was actually part of a drill.
