Trump Stuns World With US Plan To Control Gaza
President Donald Trump unveiled a contentious proposal to place Gaza under U.S. control and relocate its Palestinian residents, drawing international criticism and concern over its feasibility and humanitarian implications.
During a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump outlined his vision to transform Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East,” suggesting U.S. administration of the territory and the resettlement of its 2 million Palestinian residents to other countries.
The proposal, which lacks implementation details, includes clearing unexploded ordnance, removing rubble, and economic redevelopment. Trump claimed support from regional leadership, despite explicit rejections from Egypt, Jordan, and Palestinian representatives.
Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour firmly opposed the resettlement concept, stating, “Our homeland is our homeland.” Local Gazans, including Hatem Azzam from Rafah, similarly rejected Trump’s characterization of their territory.
Netanyahu, making his first White House visit since Trump’s return to power, called the plan “history-changing” and praised Trump’s “outside the box” thinking. However, Saudi Arabia responded by reiterating that normalization with Israel depends on Palestinian statehood.
The proposal comes amid ongoing regional tensions, with Gaza’s current ceasefire bringing limited relief after months of conflict. The war, triggered by Hamas’s October 7 attack, has resulted in over 47,500 Palestinian casualties according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, while Israel reported 1,200 deaths from the initial Hamas incursion.
The timing of this proposal coincides with efforts to secure a second phase of the Israel-Hamas truce, though Netanyahu maintained Israel’s commitment to “winning the war” and securing all hostages’ release.
