Egypt to buy drones from China?
Egypt is reportedly in talks with China over the delivery of Wing Long series drones. Egypt wants to buy Wing Loong 1 unmanned aerial vehicles from China for its air force in undisclosed Numbers. According to the Stockholm Peace Research Institute, China has already supplied various types of drones to Egypt. Notable among them are ASN 209 Medium altitude Long Endurance Drones and Wing Long 1 or 2 Drones. According to Defense Sources, Egypt and China had earlier agreed on technology transfer related to 12 ASN 209 UAVs. In May 2012, six drones were manufactured in Egypt with the cooperation of China. The drones are currently fully operational in the service of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
Wing Loong 1 is also a MALE drone, While the 2 have more range & endurance capabilities. Wing Loong 1D is actually an upgraded version of the original Wing Loong 1. It uses composite material and has a payload capacity of more than base versions. The Wing Loong 1D can carry a range of 4,000 km and 12 missiles, while its endurance is said to be 35 hours.
