Japan Launches 5th Mogami-Class Multirole Frigate
The Japanese Navy has launched its fifth Mogami Class Frigate. This ship is called a multi-mission stealth frigate. One hundred and thirty meters long and has a full displacement of five thousand five hundred tons. Its top speed is thirty knots. It has the capacity to accommodate 90 personnel. It has 16 cells Vertical Launch System. There are eight anti-ship missiles, one C-RAM. It has a deck for Sea Hawk helicopters.
The vessel is named after the Yahagi River, which flows through Nagano, Gifu, and Aichi prefectures. All ships of the class are named after famous rivers in Japan. The shipyard will now proceed to the fitting-out stage of the frigate, ahead of its delivery and commissioning set for the end of 2023.
