Security Forces Neutralize 16 Terrorists In Bannu Cantt: ISPR

Pakistan’s security forces have neutralized a coordinated terrorist attack on the Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the elimination of all 16 attackers while tragically losing five brave soldiers in the process.

On March 4, 2025, terrorists attempted to breach the cantonment’s security through a desperate and coordinated attack. The assailants used two explosive-laden vehicles to ram into the perimeter wall, creating a breach and causing significant damage to surrounding infrastructure. The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed that the attack involved four suicide bombers among the 16 total terrorists.

The intense exchange of fire resulted in the martyrdom of five Pakistani soldiers who heroically resisted the attack. The suicide blast caused extensive damage, collapsing a portion of the wall and destroying adjacent structures, including a mosque and a residential building. The civilian toll was devastating, with 13 innocent lives lost and 32 others injured.

Intelligence reports strongly indicated the involvement of Afghan nationals in the attack, with evidence suggesting that the operation was orchestrated by terrorist ring leaders operating from Afghanistan. The Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, which has historically supported the Afghan Taliban, claimed responsibility for the assault.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack, demanding that the Interim Afghan Government take responsibility for preventing terrorist activities from its territory. The country has explicitly reserved the right to take necessary measures in response to threats emerging from across the border.

This attack follows a similar incident last year where terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Bannu cantonment, resulting in the death of eight Pakistan Army soldiers. The repeated nature of these attacks underscores the persistent security challenges facing the region.

The ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces remain resolute in their commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms. The swift and decisive response to the Bannu Cantonment attack demonstrates the country’s continued determination to combat terrorist threats and protect its citizens and military installations.

As the situation continues to develop, this incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the critical role of military and intelligence operations in maintaining national security.
